Cave and karst environments

Caves and karst environments form an important part of NSW’s geodiversity, with many impressive ancient and young rock formations being found throughout the state. Among them are the famous Jenolan caves in the Blue Mountains, which are the oldest discovered open caves in the world.

Wetland environments

Wetlands are environments that remain wet long enough for their plants and animals to become dependent on the moist conditions for at least part of their life cycle. NSW’s wetlands are home to many wetland plants and animals, making them great environments to enjoy swimming, fishing or bird watching.

Arakwal National Park joint management program

Arakwal National Park is jointly managed between the Bundjalung of Byron Bay People (Arakwal) and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). The Arakwal National Park Joint Management Committee brings together the Bundjalung People with NPWS and Byron Shire Council representatives to provide advice on the management of Arakwal National Park.

Kosciuszko National Park 80th Anniversary

April 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Kosciusko State Park, now known as Kosciuszko National Park. This park protects unique Australian ecosystems. It's a hub of alpine adventure and has a rich history with influence beyond its borders.

Lane Cove National Park bushcare

In Lane Cove National Park, you’ll find a bush regeneration group working somewhere in the park just about every day of the year. Become a volunteer and get actively involved in conserving the biodiversity of this significant tract of Sydney bushland. Meet new people and enjoy the extra exercise in the great outdoors.

Each group decides how often they volunteer. Most bushcare groups volunteer onsite from 9am–1pm, although there are some afternoon groups.

Arakoon bushcare

The fragile coastal dune system of Arakoon National Park on the beautiful NSW Mid North Coast is under threat from invasive weeds such as bitou bush. By volunteering with the Arakoon bushcare group for just 2 hours a week, you can help stem the tide of invasive weeds like bitou bush and restore native dune habitat.

Bouddi National Park
